Similarities Poster 2 by Wolf-Daughter Similarities Poster 2 by Wolf-Daughter
Similarities is a fictional non-profit organization. The concept is to spread awareness of how other species are like humans in that we feel, have emotions, can care for other members of the species, etc.

To clarify, the word "species" is plural. I have respect for all creatures, not just wolves. It sadness me that all species are declining in number.

My initial concept was to include multiple animals in this series. But this was a class assignment, and my college instructor told me that multiple animals would be inconsistent. She told me to pick one animal for the series. When I started this assignment about a year ago, wolves were taken off the endangered species list, and were almost immediately hunted for sport. So wolves became the focus after suggestions from my college instructor and a lot of extra thought.

In my first sketches, I think I only wanted to have the wolves on the billboard. Now, I hope no one else has a problem with the series only focusing on wolves. It wasn't entirely my choice.

Kept the illustrations simple, so as not to draw attention to color/race/etc. I wanted to try and get the audience to mainly see the expressions and the emotion.

The small caption under the wolf illustration says that the photo reference is "Chorus" taken by Scott Ian Barry.

Very nice concept, although I wish the focus was on an animal other than the wolf.

I did, and if this is supposed to be geared toward ALL animals then the artist could have used a larger variety of creatures. If Walt Disney can draw pheasants, deer, wolves, foxes, and such together then why can't this?

Also, the poster said "Wolves mourn, feel sadness, and miss family members too". If this was about ALL species, then why say wolves and not "every creature?" Even by just having that caption the illustrations could have been forgiven. But no, only wolf drawings and only wolf text. Artist comments can't save it.

This was a class assignment. In my initial concept, the organization spread awareness for all species. I wanted to use multiple animals, but my teacher said that wasn't consistent. She said it would confuse people, and told me to focus on one animal. If it had been my choice, I would have used multiple animals. I think I had only wanted the large billboard to have the wolves.

The assignment is over now. I probably won't be drawing anything else like this.

I will say to you what I did to another person with similar comments. If you really care so much about other animals, use a similar concept and draw your own art to spread awareness for those animals.

Yeah, I can understand art teachers being like that. Although my opinion still stands.

If you really care so much about other animals, use a similar concept and draw your own art to spread awareness for those animals.
